Reflection: Minor Tweaks and Discoveries

Great news! Our topic has been approved and we are set to go. A week later, we’ve arrived at a clearer picture of who we wanted to talk to and how we’re planning to approach the project. It’s no secret that interviewing strangers will be an awkward and difficult process. With that, we plan to tackle this issue of feasibility by focusing on youths who perform music in public avenues. This narrows our initial definition of buskers and hopefully makes us more relatable to them!

While close to us in age, these buskers have chose​n very different routes, amidst constant nagging from society on the importance of education and securing stable jobs. Past documentaries and articles have also uncovered issues of stigma and challenges faced by buskers. It’s an interesting angle which we hope to explore in our upcoming interviews.

Meanwhile, we are also excited at the prospects of creating video or photo opportunities after the Guest Speaker during lecture this week. His examples of evoking mood through the placement of items and change of colour will definitely be useful for this site.

Apart from our personal contacts, we have also contacted several arts organization and we look forward to hearing from them soon! Fingers crossed!
